Finding Your Classes
One of the best ways to prepare for a successful start to the semester is to locate your classrooms before classes begin. Walking your schedule ahead of time helps you become familiar with campus and estimate how long it takes to travel between classes. Taking a little time to find your classes now can reduce stress, increase your confidence, and help ensure you arrive on time and are ready to learn when the semester begins. Use the information below to locate your classes and start the semester feeling prepared.
- Log into HokieSpa and view your class schedule by navigating to Course Registration and Schedule > Classic Student Schedule > Detail Schedule.
- In the Location column, you will see an abbreviate building name in blue. Click the abbreviation to view the building’s full name.
- Use the campus map, Apple Maps, or Google Maps to locate each building on campus.
- Return to your Classic Student Schedule and review the order of your classes for both your Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedule and your Tuesday/Thursday schedule.
- Plan a route from your residence hall (or parking lot, if you commute) to each class in the order they occur during the day.
- Walk your schedule before classes begin. If the building is unlocked, go inside and locate your classroom. Finding the correct room may take additional time, so be sure to include this in your travel plans.
- Pay attention to how long it takes to walk between classes and identify any areas where you may need extra time, especially during busy class-change periods.
A few optional additions that students often find helpful:
- On your Classic Student Schedule, T stands for Tuesday and R stands for Thursday
- Take note of nearby restrooms, dining locations, and study spaces along your route
- Save a screen shot of your schedule on your phone for easy access during the first week of classes
